At Assurity Life, we have made a commitment to being a leader in corporate environmental sustainability. While we have taken an environmentally conscious approach for some time, in 2010 we formalized our commitment by launching a corporate initiative to develop a comprehensive sustainability program.

We believe businesses today must make decisions which are environmentally sound, economically viable and socially equitable. A sustainable business must aspire to do what is right, not just for the bottom line or from a legal standpoint. The commitment of our time and resources in developing a comprehensive sustainability program exemplifies Assurity’s first corporate value—ethical behavior.

Our new headquarters building, now taking shape in Lincoln’s Antelope Valley project, is a visible reminder of our commitment. The Assurity Center is designed to be a model of sustainability that will “touch the environment as lightly as possible.” It represents a major step toward reducing our environmental impact and stands as an investment in the future of our community as one of our stakeholders.

A legacy of sustainability

We believe sustainability can be an economic asset and a competitive advantage, as well as an imperative for healthy life on our planet. Sustainability is becoming increasingly important to our customers. Being known as one of the most progressive life/health insurance companies in the green movement can provide a good opportunity to differentiate ourselves from our competitors.

In conducting business and in our personal lives, sustainability is an issue of responsible citizenship. By making sure we are responsible with our environment, we can leave an important legacy for those who will follow us.

In the end, we believe we should adopt a greater concern for our environment and more sustainable practices because it is simply the right thing to do, and key to living our value of ethical behavior.
